Top Ten Songs with Luke Schlimgen

Hi there, its Luke Schlimgen and this is top 10 Sonic the Hedgehog songs I love. I'm a 8th grade theatre major.

This will be a weekly publication of top 10 tracks that you can listen to while working, eating or going to sleep.

This week's theme is classic Sonic the Hedgehog songs.

For the start of the hedgehog's life, he didn't have as many bangers as he would later. That doesn't mean he didn't have some amazing ones in here though. I will count spinoffs which will include Knuckles' Chaotix. I will also include new classic sonic games like Sonic Mania and Sonic Superstars, but I will not include games that have him as a side focus like Sonic Generations or Sonic Forces. Also, for the case of Sonic Mania I will not include remixes of stages I will only include new stages for that game. Let's begin!

10. Scrap Brain Zone: Sonic the Hedgehog

I didn't expect this song to be as it is.  It has a kind of feeling to it that just makes it sound sort of mystical at times that just feels right and serene.

9. Mystic Cave Zone: Sonic the Hedgehog 2

Mystic cave is a spooky song fitting the level environment very well its very bouncy and has a lot of different parts which all blend to gather in a good way.

8. Wacky Workbench Past: Sonic CD

This song has such an atmosphere the sparkling in the background and what I can only imagine are violins playing through the song which makes you feel just happy.

7. Hydrocity Zone Act 2: Sonic the Hedgehog 3

The main theme of Hydrocity is jazz but in Act 2 they still have the jazz but now more in the background which I think makes it better than act 1. I like jazz, but it works better as back up than the main focus.

6. Wildstyle Pistolero Mirage Salon Act 1: Sonic Mania

While I think Act 2 is good, I think I prefer the slower pace and more western vibe of Knuckles in Act 1. In fact, the slower pacing kind of pays homage to his treasure hunting in the adventure games which is really cool.

5. Prime Time Studiopolis Zone Act 2: Sonic Mania

While a lot of people prefer Act 1 but I really like the jazziness in this song. While in Hydrocity the jazz kind of slowed the song down, here it speeds the song up and gives it an awesome vibe.

4. Lagoon City Act 2: Sonic Superstars

This song goes for something far different than anything else on this list. Instead of a funky song or a jazzy song this is a more somber and beautiful song with a piano I think and even a little jazz in there. All this creates a beautiful, more somber song.

3. Sand Sanctuary Zone Act 1: Sonic Superstars

This song goes into the theme of the area deep giving it this jazzy Arabian night theme. The acoustic guitar is the icing on the cake for me. Hands down a modern classic.

2. Ice Cap Zone Act 1: Sonic the Hedgehog 3

This is an all-time classic with an energetic beat and funky tune that you will hum for hours. Also, just to clarify, I am talking about the original song not the prototype from Sonic Origins. There was a licensing issue with the song but if you want a bopping good time definitely listen to the original.

1. Door Into Summer: Knuckles Chaotix

I'm sure a lot of people are surprised by this ranking, in fact, some people probably don't even know this golden gem of a song even exists. it's from the forgotten game Knuckles Chaotix or just Chaotix as its known in Japan. This game was released on the 32x which is an add on for the Sega Genesis that did not sell very well which is why not many people know about it. This song is just pure gold. It just throws you into a beautiful world of fantasy and hope. There's not much else I can say. It makes you feel good in all ways - case closed.
